JECS Annual Events
2008-2009
All School Picnic
– A fun family evening that allows our incoming families and returning families
a place to meet. It is a great way for students to meet each other prior to the
first day of school. The picnic is also utilized as a great info platform for
parents to get all necessary paperwork prior to first day of school, as well as
lining up possible car pools.
Back to School Night
– An evening that allows our parents and staff to meet face to face beginning
the partnership between our families and staff. This is also the time when
teachers will give out expectations to the parents for the upcoming school year,
including syllabuses and class rules.
Parent Association
Meetings – These
meetings are given quarterly and attendance is a requirement for parents. The
Themes for this year’s meetings are: #1 – Academic Excellence at JECS; #2 –
Learning Styles/What are they and why does JECS use them?; #3 – Mentoring at
JECS; #4 – Service Days at JECS. These meetings are also a wonderful place for
the board to update our families on the school’s enrollment, finances, future
plans, etc.
Parent/Student/Teacher
Conferences – A time
for parents to sit down with their student and his/her teachers. Progress
Reports or Reports Cards are handed out to the parents. Occurs twice a year.
Silent Auction
– This parent-run event is our largest fundraiser of the year. It is also a
great way to invite friends and family to a JECS event. The auction usually
takes place in November and it makes it possible for us to keep our tuition
costs down.
Fall Drama Production
– Our first drama production of the year. This is a great time to experience
the Jim Elliot School drama department. This drama also serves as the final
exam for our fall drama classes.
Operation Christmas Child
and Compa Outreach –
The entire school serves at either Operation Christmas Child or Compa Food
Ministry for our 6th grade. This is a great day for parents to serve
alongside the students in impacting our community. It is a great relationship
builder between students and parents.
Senior Retreat
– A reflective retreat for our Senior class near the end of their Jim Elliot
years. This is a time to spend with friends seeking God’s guidance in faith,
fellowship and the future.
High Trails Camp
– A Colorado outdoor education program with the Cottonwood Creek Elementary 5th
graders (Cherry Creek School District). This is where JECS juniors take time to
go and serve as counselors and teachers for this experiential outdoor camp.
Serve-A-Thon
– This is another major fundraiser for our school. This also relies primarily
upon our families for success. It is a letter writing campaign where we solicit
sponsors for our students as they serve in the community for an entire day.
These sponsors are sought from outside our normal donors to our neighbors and
the professionals in our lives. It’s a great way to reach out to our doctors,
dentists, etc.
High School Formal
– This dinner and dance evening is for all of our high school students. There
are already parents working on making this year’s event as amazing as past
years. It’s another great way to get involved as parents.
Spring Drama Production
– This is the big production of the year for the drama department. You do not
want to miss this! Friends and families are all invited to come and see the
amazing talent and hearts with which God has gifted our students.
JECS Olympics
– An all day/all school/all family event held during the month of May. It
really is a day that parents enjoy seemingly as much as the students. All seven
classes compete in various team building exercises as the day progresses. Each
class enjoys picking their country, colors, country flags as well as intro music
that they use during the morning parade of countries. Consider getting involved
in this; you won’t regret it!
